The journey started in May 2009 visiting senior high schools in the Ashanti region of Ghana, introducing the new program Open Mic Poetry competition. The program under the close supervision of the Ghana Education Service enjoyed maximum support from headmasters and headmistresses who encouraged their students to utilise the opportunity created by Unified Talents to harness their talents in creative writing.
The program hopes to run every year when resources are available. The first year of the program has seen difficulties in financing but there is the hope that as we continue to work tirelesly the community will come to accept this new concept. Poetry performance as an art form has seen little acknowledgemnet in Ghana but the introduction of such an idea will help in this direction.
It is our hope that people will in any small way help in making Open Mic Poetry Competition a success in Ghana.
